The Ogun State Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun has urged Hon. Judges, Magistrates and Law officers to continue to play their dual roles of ensuring political stability being the last hope of the common man.

He further stated that the Judiciary must continue to work on the glorious path of ensuring that the three arms of government though independent must work collectively within the tenets and principles of the separation of power for the overall best interest of the people of Ogun State.

Prince Dapo Abiodun gave the advice at the Special Church Service ushering in the 2023/2024 new legal year, held at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.

The Governor who applauded Ogun State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice (Dr.) Mosunmola Dipeolu, FICMC, FHNR and other Hon. Judges in the State for their dedication to duties reiterated that his administration shall continue to prioritise Judges’ welfare in appreciation of their lives of sacrifice.

 “You have a very tough job, a tough job to do in dispensing justice without fear or favour, you aren’t able to socialize and you are sentenced to reclusion, you can’t engage in any commercial business, you spend all your time listening to cases attentively and wiring judgements.” the Governor said.

The Governor further stated that his government would continue to appreciate the importance of a strong and functional judicial system and administration in the successful implementation of the developmental agenda of the State.

Earlier in his sermon titled “The wisdom of God in the administration of justice in today Nigeria”, the Bishop of Egba Anglican Diocese, Rt. Revd. Emmanuel Adekunle noted that it is imperative for Hon. Judges and those who administer justice to be filled with the spirit of God to be able to Judge without fear or favour.

Still on the new Legal year service which was held at the Kobiti Central Mosque, the State Governor, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun represented by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Oyedele-Salako appreciated the entire judicial sector of the State for its efforts towards the attainment of a good society noting that they were important in the survival of good democratic governance.

Assuring that the present administration would continue to guarantee a conducive atmosphere for the rule of law and would not hesitate to further work with the judiciary and other arms of government for improved democracy.

The guest lecturer, who was the Chief Imam University of Ibadan and lecturer in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Prof. Abdul- Rahman Oloyede in his lecture titled “Home as the bedrock of a better society” noted that everyone irrespective of tribe should live as a family pointing out that God had made mankind in different tribes and nation to identify themselves.

A novel development at the new legal year service was the launch and presentation of a special publication “Ogun State Judiciary Compendium” by the Judiciary which was commended by the Ogun State Governor as a veritable source of information and research material.
