As a basic principle of the rule of law, the absence of access to justice will make people unable to have their voices heard, exercise their rights, challenge discrimination or hold decisionmakers accountable.
This was the opinion of the Chief Judge of Ogun State Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu at the commissioning of High Court II, Idi-Oke, Igebesa in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Ogun State.
The Chief Judge noted that to have a formidable justices system, all stakeholders responsible for national development and the development of the rule of law have to take steps to provide fair, transparent, effective, non-discriminatory and accountable services that promote access to justice for all.
Reiterating on the importance of Court in a community His Lordship disclosed that “The establishment of a court in a community promotes law and order, encourages business and social development” noting that people are aware of a place of redress to any infringement of their rights.
In Her words “Before 2021, the people of Idi – oke, Agbara and environs have had to travel a long distance to Otta, to access justice. Needless to say that a lot of rights and freedom had been trampled because of the denial of access to justice at these times”
“Access to justice is a fundamental right of the citizenry protected by the constitution. As a basic principle of the rule of law, the absence of access to justice will make people unable to have their voices heard, exercise their rights, challenge discrimination or hold decision- makers accountable.” His lordship added.
