June 27, 2023Ogun State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu as described the need for information validation, authentication as well as data protection in the nation judicial sector for the overall improvement of procedures in the temple of Justice
The Hon. Chief Judge further stressed that Judicial system should be easy to use and judiciary must take the step to digitalise its system to improve the justice system’s effectiveness and time management
Hon. Justice Dipeolu represented by Hon. Justice Olarenwaju Mabekoje disclosed this in His Lordship’s Keynote address at the Refresher Course organized for Head of Registries of Judicial Divisions and Magisterial Districts held at the Judiciary Complex in Abeokuta.
On challenges facing the justice system, the Chief Judge said “In this age of globalisation, the world is trending towards e-government and e-justice, adopting an electronic system will improve the work environment for the Heads of Stations and also facilitate their work process. The main challenge that the judicial sector faces is the need for information validation, and authentication as well as data protection”.
His Lordship who described court registry as the live wire of the court maintained that Head of Stations are the custodians of the Exhibits tendered in the Court.
Emphasising the need for effective and efficient workforce in the Court Registry, the Chief Judge stated that “Head of stations are also pivotal in guiding and teaching the court staff to effectively discharge their duties. It is said that what you do has far greater impact than what you say, thus they have the burden to lead by example”.
The Chief Judge who also harped on the theme of the training, “Optimizing and Enhancing the Skill of Officers in the Higher Echelon of Court Registrar Cadre in Court Administration in the 21st Century,” said the training was organised to train the Participants on the necessities required for them to remain relevant and efficient as Head of Stations in this 21st Century, charging them to be more dutiful in the discharge of their duties.
In his paper, titled “Enhancing the Skills of Officers in Higher Echelon of Court Registrar Carder in Court Administration”, Mr. Olusanya Adebamowo who facilitated participants on the topic said, improving or enhancing administrative skill is germane to personal responsibility noting that a supervisor must show a willingness to learn and grow.
“Court Registrars are the first point of contact with the members of the public in the administration of Justice. You are the mirror with which the public judge the judiciary, without court registrars the work of judiciary would be paralyzed” Adebamowo added.
He thus advised participants to provide upcoming officers with opportunities to learn and understudy under the tutelage of experienced heads of Court Registries for a short duration for onwards understanding of Court Administration.
Also, a retired Assistant Chief Registrar of the Ogun State Judiciary, Mr. Ezikiel Shodiya, who also facilitated the participants said the role played by the judiciary staff towards the smooth running of administration of justice cannot be over emphasised as every category of staff is expected to play its role within the body to achieve a common goal which is the delivery of quick and effective justice to all manner of men.
