The Kaduna State Judiciary has applauded Ogun State judiciary for performing excellently in the comity of Judiciaries on establishment and implementation of the bondsmen licensing scheme across the Country.

The bondsmen licensing scheme is designed to decongest prisons and discourage touting by unlicensed surety for those on bail bond from absconding

Sub-Committee members on decongestion of prisons under the monitoring committee of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) in Kaduna state disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the Hon. Chief Judge of Ogun State in her office at the State Judiciary Complex, Abeokuta.

The Chairman of the Sub-Committee, Hon. Justice Darius Khobo extolled the Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu for the giant strides in the State Justice System, adding that it is worthy of emulation by other Jurisdictions.

Other members of the Sub-committee who visited the Hon. Chief Judge (HCJ) are Mr Ahmed Saidu (Deputy Controller Correctional Service) and Mrs Aisha Aliyu (Secretary of the Sub- Committee).

Khobo emphasized that the sub-committee’s quest is to gain an insight into the operations of Bondsmen Regulations and Practice Directions in Ogun State Judiciary with a view to emulating and implementing same in Kaduna State, noting that the charge and bail syndrome has really frustrated criminal trials in the State.

In her response, the Ogun State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu who appreciated the Sub-Committee for its encomiums, categorically affirmed that the creation of the bondsmen scheme since its inception has lessen unlawful cases of charge and bail in the State.

Justice Abiodun Akinyemi (Chairman Ogun State Licensing Board), Mrs Oluwafunke Odubanjo (Chief Registrar), Mrs Adeola Adelaja, (Bondsmen Administrator), Sir Olusegun Lanre Iyanda (Special Adviser to the HCJ) and members of the Licencing Board Scheme in Ogun State.

It would be recalled that the Bondsmen Regulations and Practice Directions was initiated by the Hon. Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu with the aim of making bail more accessible, faster and timely by anyone charged with a criminal offence as well as reduce prison congestion in the State.
