June 25, 2020Barely 48hours after the Ogun State Judiciary Introduced and inaugurated the Ogun Bondsmen Regulations and licensing board, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Hon. Justice Mosumola Dipeolu FICMC has inaugurated the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee. The committee was inaugurated on Thursday, 18th June 2020 at the Ogun State Judiciary Complex, Kobape Road, Abeokuta.
The Chief Judge cited the challenges faced by the enactment of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, as grounds for establishing the Monitoring Committee as provided for by law. His Lordship maintained that the purpose of the body is to ensure the effective and efficient application of the Law by all relevant Agencies.
Hon. Justice Dipeolu noted that other duties of the committee according to section 486 (1) and(2)(a)-(h) of the ACJL include speedy determination of criminal matters, reduction in congestion of criminal matters in court, decongestion of correctional centers amongst other important functions.
The members of the committee include, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, the Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the State Commissioner of Police, the Comptroller of Correctional Centers, Chairman of the Ogun State Nigeria Bar Association, Director of Public prosecution, Director of Citizens Right and a representative of any civil right society.
Hon. Justice Dipeolu seized the event to implore the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to provide all necessary facilities needed for the full application of the law.
