August 11, 2023Hon. Justice Olatokunbo Bamgbose has been described as an exemplary jurist, a refined judge whose impact was felt by humanity ,especially the judicial ARM and all relevant stakeholders in Ogun State.
This was the submission of the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu at a Valedictory court sitting in honour of Late Hon. Justice Olatokunbo John Bamgbose held at the Judiciary Complex in Abeokuta.
The Hon. Chief Judge, referred to Late Hon. Justice Bamgbose, as “a very strong man, who believed in hard work and he devoted all he had to the course of Justice, His Lordship was thorough, honest, committed and a respectable gentleman to the core, he was simple, easy and very respectful”.
Hon. Justice Dipeolu also added that “ Late Hon. Justice Bamgbose was enthusiastic about the success of the people around him, he was profound, and wore a cheerful countenance at all times, his Lordship had strong character, powerful intellect, great learning, courage, wisdom, compassion, eloquence and robust common sense”.
On his part, the Ogun State Solicitor-General, Ministry of Justice, Mr Olusegun Olaotan, reminded everyone about the mortality of man and how time and tide take its course, described Late Hon. Justice Bamgbose as an eminent and astute jurist who bestrode the judicial firmament of the State like a colossus.
“His Lordship was such a very fine humane, urbane, understanding, soft spoken and intelligent gentleman, who was a bastion of justice that dispensed same without fear, favour, affection or ill-will,” Olaotan added
In his contribution, the representative of the Body of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Bambo Adesanya said “My Lord exhibited all the required traits of a thoroughbred professional in his years of practice, likewise contributed greatly to the social upliftment of Nigerians through his authorship of books and journals aimed at restoring the much needed social coherence in our demented society”
In their remarks, the representative of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ota branch, Mr Adewale Adegoke and Ibadan branch, Mrs Folashade Aladeniyi, acknowledged his Lordship’s contribution to legal practice, advising other legal practitioners to emulate the invaluable truth of the transient nature of human existence, eternal values of Christ-likeness, selflessness, love and justice.
Late Hon. Justice Bamgbose was born on April 3, 1960, called to Bar in June 1982, did his pupillage at the Chamber of the Great Chief Olisa Chukwura OFR, SAN and worked between 1983-1991 before establishing O.J. Bamgbose & Co, (LP) in 1992 until he was sworn in as a Judge of High Court of Justice, Ogun State in December7, 2016.
Late Hon. Justice Bamgbose was the author of the Digest of Judgements of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and the Editor-in-Chief of the Family Law Reports of Nigeria.
THE Valedictory Court sitting in honour of the late jurist was also attended BY the Deputy Governor of the State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.
